A Light and Scanning Electron Microscopic study on Regeneration Flollowing Extirpation of the Sagittal Suture in the Mouse

Abstract
In order to clarify the histological characteristics of suture, the reforming process and morphological changes following extirpation in sagittal suture of the mouse (ICR) were examined chronologically and histologically with light and scanning
electron
microscopy.
@ES The results were as follows :
@EN 1. The excised gap shows a cellular infiltration in 1 day after excision. The external, internal and excisional surfaces are not changed.
2. The new bone formation begins at the dura mater in 4 days after excision.
3. The increase of fibrous components in seen in the excised gap in 7 days after excision.
4. The new trabeculae become a mass of which surface is smooth.
5. The fiber bundles are oriented regularly but they are not complicated at the center of the suture.
6. In 4 weeks after excision, the sutural surface is regenerated later but embedding of fiber bundles into the bone surface is fewer than that in normal state.
